How About Making 'Special Victims Unit' About The Victims, Not The Cops?
-
You're going to see a lot more pieces like this debating whether TV police procedurals like the Dick Wolf franchises "Law and Order" and "Chicago P.D." glorified the cops and led to the public giving the police the benefit of the doubt for decades of brutality. And it raises the question, in light of the cancellation of "Cops" by Paramount Network, whether there's a future for cop shows of any kind, scripted or reality. Wolf says his shows are not political, but is there an effect anyway? (Incidentally, for a show that showed both police brutality and consequences for it, go back and watch "The Shield." The ending alone -- the ultimate punishment for a corrupt, violent cop who craved action -- is worth watching the entire series.) (Los Angeles Times)
