It's An Essential Part Of The Game
-
I was watching the Phillies-Yankees game on Wednesday (game one of the doubleheader) and in the seventh inning, some borderline calls by umpire Angel Hernandez drew some colorful responses from the Yankees. Very colorful. And you could hear every single word. ("That's f'in BS," only not abbreviated.) And, as this New York Times article indicates, the empty ballparks and extensive use of field mics -- not that you need a mic to hear it -- has led to player, coach, and ump swearing being very easy to hear on TV and radio. Are you offended? Really, what did you THINK they say on the field? And what are you gonna do about it, tell the players to watch their mouths? After all, you're eavesdropping and they're human....
