You Can Go To The Food Court Or You Can Cook Lunch Yourself

The story that made the rounds over the weekend about Amazon scouting to take over empty department store slots in malls may have obscured something else they may be up to: moving grocery stores into malls. This would be a case of what's-old-is-new-again, because back in the '50s and early '60s, supermarkets in malls and shopping centers were commonplace. Our big regional mall here has a Japanese supermarket in it, and I'd love to see a really good and big market take over the soon-to-be-vacant Sears spot. Come on, Wegman's or Publix, we could use you in California. (CNBC)
