It Was Never A Meritocracy
-
A California state audit revealed that four University of California campuses admitted 64 students based on "inappropriate factors," by which they mean the students' families donated to the school or they had some relation to school staff. And, well, how is this news? Because hasn't it been that way since forever? That parents donate buildings to schools and, magically, their dunce of a son gets in? Or students who dont make the grade academically are let in because they're "legacies"? I mean, it's wrong, and it shouldn't be the case that unqualified kids jump the line and get in because daddy is rich, but that's been the case for generations. (Los Angeles Times)
