Everybody Gotta Sit Someplace
-
California is, as you've heard, in a general stay-at-home order with semi-lockdown rules that include the banning of even outdoor seating at restaurants. Manhattan Beach is trying an end-around by allowing restaurants' outdoor sidewalk and parking lot tables to be reclassified as general public seating, not reserved for eating but instead first-come-first-served and available if you buy takeout at a restaurant. The county says not so fast, that's still banned, but there is, to put it mildly, a difference of opinion on that. But it's a reminder that in the pandemic, in many places, there hasn't even been a place for you to sit down and eat a sandwich or just take a load off. It's your car or nothing. If there's been anything that's been especially disorienting to me during the pandemic, it's the inability to just grab lunch and find a place to sit and eat and maybe do some work on wifi.
