We've been waiting for the self-driving car for years; I've seen permutations of that at CES for the past, um, decade. But now we aren't going to get self-driving cars. Oh, they're still trying to develop cars that navigate themselves, but Google's Waymo, the division at the forefront of the self-driving car, says that it will no longer call them "self-driving" cars because, they say, an unnamed competitor (coughTeslacough) is misrepresenting what it has as "full self-driving" and not a driver-assist system. Waymo will call what it's developing "fully autonomous," which is, er, the same thing? I don't know, but semantics apparently matter. Either way, we still don't have cars in which we can sleep or watch a movie while moving, and I don't know if we're going to get there any time soon, whataver we call it. (CNN)
