First, Uber and Lyft took a chunk of their business. Now, the pandemic. Things are at a critical point for New York cab drivers, whose livelihoods are at the breaking point. This was a job favored by new immigrants who couldn't easily get work otherwise but, with the help of their community to scrape together the cash for a medallion, could earn enough to get by and work towards something more. Now, they have debt from the medallions (which are devalued by something like 75%), nobody's riding, and they're more at risk of COVID-19 than most jobs. What can they do now? (CNN)
