I'll Never Complain About Parking At LAX Again (Yeah, Sure)

Another story in the "Canadians are nice" series that also includes a not-as-nice Canadian: A Detroit woman drove to Toronto's Pearson Airport in March of 2020, parked, and took a flight to Europe for necessary medical treatment. You know what happened next: pandemic, then travel restrictions, and she had to fly directly home to Detroit, stranding her car in Toronto. The parking lot owner insists she now owes $2,000 (or $2,500 -- the amount he demanded is in dispute). The "nice" part: Several Canadians have offered to get her car back to her, bailing it out and driving it to the border at Windsor for her. Let's go back to the lot owner, though: It isn't costing him anything to house the car. These were extraordinary and unforeseen circumstances. As with so many other things in this pandemic (like those astronomical electricity bills in Texas right now), can't businesses let things slide a little, understanding that this is all a special situation? Did this guy HAVE to insist on payment in full? Sure, it's rough that he lost business, but it's not her fault and he could easily just let the car go and call it a day. (CTV News)
