So Many Movies, So Little Taste

Martin Scorsese's comments that streaming hurts film because the recommendation algorithms determine what you're likely to watch next are interesting because there's truth in that to some extent -- people do often decide to watch things because they pop up on the Netflix home page, and some movies might get lost because the algorithms don't promote them to the main menu -- but there's also the fact that everyone has watched movies they otherwise wouldn't have seen because the streaming service suggested them. I mean, I get his point, and it's true, but I also know that I'm seeing a more diverse array of movies -- hardly blockbusters -- now because I can stream them on my TV, and that more than counteracts the loss of the multiplex experience.
