Connecting the dots is sometimes silly, as in the claim that America's deadliest avalanche season in years is in large part the pandemic's fault. No, the virus doesn't cause snow to slide. The idea is that because of the pandemic, people, unable to go on vacation in more crowded places, are going in record numbers to the mountains, and it's true that a lot of avalanches are caused by humans inadvertently triggering the slides. But climate change is probably a more likely culprit -- more severe weather swings will create unusual conditions. So, pick your poison. (CNN)
