It's Not The Economy, Stupid
-
Okay, political talkers, here's one for you: The Republicans have embraced the idea that they're the party of the (white) "working class" now. They've made a big deal about how the Democrats abandoned blue-collar workers and the G.O.P. has not. But at the same time, the Republicans have mostly rejected any bills to help the working class. They're against the stimulus (now that there's a Democratic majority), they're against an increase in the minimum wage, they're against help for families with children, they're against every single proposal that would benefit the working class, and, conversely, supported things that only really benefited the wealthiest Americans up to now. That's a topic, and if you don't want to make it partisan, it's also about what you think and feel when you vote for someone and they don't do what they say they're going to do for you. (Or, if you want to be partisan, you can ask whether the appeal to blue-collar voters is more about racial resentment and fake "cancel culture" drama than the "economic angst" they've said it is.)
