Late last week, someone paid $132 million for a Tom Brady rookie card. That's the open market for you, but there's the larger question of why sports cards, which bottomed out a few years ago, have suddenly surged in pricing, at least for specific rare superstar cards. The card market is only as hot as buyers say it is, and we're now in a boom era. Why? The cards are as scarce or plentiful as they were a decade ago. Is the desire to make a fortune driving this, or is there an intrinsic value that isn't apparent to the layperson? (ESPN)
