Not That We Were Planning To Rush Back To Theaters Anyway, But Still, It Hurts
-
I can't tell you how stunning it is for people in L.A. that Arclight Cinemas and Pacific Cinemas are closing and will not reopen after the pandemic. I know, there are Arclights in a few other cities, and even some in our suburbs, but the big one -- with the Cinerama Dome, the one on Sunset in Hollywood -- is the kind of landmark and common experience here that is hard to match. It's where celebrities and nobodies like me went to see movies you couldn't see anywhere else, or the movies you COULD see elsewhere but with better projection, seating, and presentation (a few trailers, no ads, a live host introducing the film). That it's not coming back is a reminder that we're losing things from the pandemic that we didn't expect to ever lose. (Los Angeles Times)
