Because There's No 'Rage For The Machine'
-
You know that "Born in the USA" is not a patriotic song, not the way flag-wavers think it is. You know Rage Against the Machine is not in any way, shape, or form conservative. You know that most rock, pop, and Hip Hop artists detest the right wing. Yet, at Trump and neo-Nazi/white supremacist rallies, you hear songs with lyrics that are basically 180 degrees from what the people pumping their fists to the music think. It's appropriation, and the concern, besides the artists wanting nothing to do with the identification, is that, like with "Born in the USA," the wrong meaning will attach itself and never let go. (And, no, it doesn't go in the other direction, unless someone is playing Lee Greenwood records at BLM protests....) (The Guardian)
