Great Beaches, Great Pizza, Short Drive From NYC And Philly. What's Not To Love?

New Jersey is defensive for a reason: People make fun of it and call it the "armpit of America" even when they've never been in New Jersey or they've only seen it from the New Jersey Turnpike or on "Jersey Shore." That's why they're fighting back after some online survey ranked New Jersey 48th among U.S. states. Okay, here's some defense of New Jersey, from a native who chose to move away a long time ago: Yes, property taxes are high, the Turnpike is, in its northern stretch, industrial, and there are some cities where things are not wonderful. But there is a lot of beauty there, nature, the shore (ignore Snooki), great food, rolling green hills, tons to do, and good people. Did I mention the food? Not only can you say that there are worse places to live or visit, I'd say that it ought to rank a lot higher on these lists. What? Yeah, I moved away. What about it? (WCBS-TV/New York)
