Maybe Make The Sand Traps Bigger

In California, we have a drought. We also have golf courses built in desert climates. To keep them green, the course owners use over a million gallons of water a night. This seems... wrong. Should golf courses be allowed to use up that much water? The L.A. Times' Steve Lopez looked into it, and it's complicated: Golf courses in the desert can tap into an aquifer under the desert floor, and they are trying to reduce their use of water through conservation efforts and recycling. And the courses ARE a major economic driver in the Coachella Valley. But the optics are pretty bad. (Los Angeles Times)
