Another Reason To Hate Bureaucracy

It does not matter what your position is on immigration, it's still just wrong that the widow of an American who died fighting for his country in Iraq and their son are in the process of being deported from America because U.S. immigration law refuses to recognize marriage by proxy. See, she's from Japan, they fell in love, he left for Iraq before he knew she was pregnant, they married by proxy, and the immigration law won't recognize a marriage that wasn't consummated. Seriously. And the only reason they know it wasn't consummated is that the soldier died before he could return. They can't make an exception in this case? Why the hell not? Both Tennessee Senators and several Congresspersons, in a bi-partisan manner, are advancing legislation to fix this, but it should never have gotten to this point. Thanks to Frank Murphy at WWST (Star 102.1)/Knoxville for the link.
