Your Money's No Good Here

Whole Foods may join Fresh and Easy in doing something practically unheard-of for groceries: refusing to accept personal checks. Why? Because they're a pain to process. Of course, they COULD join the system that automatically debits your account when you write a check -- it's so trouble-free that they don't even need to keep the check. I've seen that at Wal-Mart and Sprouts, so it's hardly unusual. But I guess it's even easier to just say no and inconvenience people who don't want to use debit cards or carry cash or put purchases on their credit cards. Yeah, it's a pain when you're behind a slow checkwriter in the express lane, but those people are slow with credit cards, too. Why would chains want to make it harder for some customers to, um, buy?
