In Queensland, Australia, a set of reforms to police powers proposes giving cops the ability to slap fines on people on the spot for minor offenses. How minor? How about $100 for swearing in public? With this one, if a cop just doesn't like you but doesn't have anything else to nail you over, he can just slap a swearing fine on you. Didn't swear? Prove it. They would also be able to hit you with fines for public urination, disorderly conduct, and stuff like that. Its because they need/want your money, of course, and free speech be damned. So, if you're in Queensland, and these "reforms" get passed for 2011, keep your mouth shut and, whatever you do, don't pee in public. (Brisbane Courier-Mail)
