Another Reason To Avoid City Council Meetings
-
Remember that case in Santa Cruz where the homeless-rights advocate gave a mock-Nazi salute to the City Council and they threw him out, and he sued? That trial's still going on right now. They're still fighting it out, with the city saying the guy has no right to sue because everything the audience does -- any gesture, any comment -- are inherently disruptive. And that's a topic: Is the public supposed to sit there and shut up unless specifically permitted to talk? On the other hand, can the public just turn every council meeting into a free-for-all? Lower courts agree with the city, but an appeals court gave him this rehearing. (San Francisco Chronicle)
