Just Pay The Fare And You Don't Need Insurance
-
Only in Paris would people who jump turnstiles or otherwise cheat to avoid paying the subway fare be unionized. They've banded together for "scofflaw insurance," where everyone pays in and the plan pays out if you get caught and ticketed. It costs about $8.50 a month. They say they dodge the fare for political reasons, a sort of left-wing idealism that makes no sense when one considers that they need billions to run the Metro and if you don't pay, there's no money for it. I thought left-wing idealism meant you DO pay so that EVERYONE can have the communal commuting service. (Los Angeles Times)
