Theory vs. Practice, or How It Looks Different When You're In The Middle Of It: Elena Kagan was a big advocate of judicial nominees being open and honest about their opinions on issues that might come before the court during their confirmation hearings. Now that she's a nominee for the Supreme Court, she's reconsidered that position, and now she won't let on what she thinks on anything. Can't blame her, but, still, it's a good demonstration of how things change when you're suddenly having to practice what you preached. (New York Times)
