Somewhere, It's Still 1963
-
This article informs me that something I remember from my childhood still exists: ladies playing mah jongg at swim club cabanas. This was how my childhood went: I'd go up the street to the Preakness Valley Swim Club, and as I walked in, at any time of day, there were card tables set up and the older women would play mah jongg and the older guys would smoke cigars and play dominoes or cards. Go watch "The Flamingo Kid" for a taste of this; it's pretty accurate as a depiction of the mid-Atlantic swim club culture of the 1960's. (New York Times)
