The premise of this article is that it's a terrible thing that states are cutting preschool from their budgets, because, well, kids need to "get ready for school." Correct me if I'm wrong, but we didn't have "preschool" funded by the state when we were kids. There WAS such a thing as "nursery school," but that was more like what we'd call "day care" now. What they're really saying here is that the state should be providing "free" (taxpayer-supported) daycare. "Pre-kindergarten" really doesn't teach anything, but everyone ASSUMES it does.
