K-Rod returned to the Mets after his arrest for punching out his fiancee's father, and he issued an apology, as if that's enough. But what's interesting is that the Mets wanted to suspend him for longer than two games, but the union stepped in to block them. Why is the union so eager to protect the employment of someone who did what he allegedly did (and if due process is the issue, he's admitting to having done something and he's saying he's going to take anger management courses, so it's not like he's proclaiming his innocence here)?
