BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I've been in radio for eight years now. It all began in 2013 at Ville Platte Broadcasting. I was a part-time DJ while going to college. Upon graduating in Communications, I became PD for 92.5/1050 KVPI. In 2019, I accepted the position as PD with Cenla Broadcasting which is where I currently oversee Q93.
1. How would you describe your first radio gig?
I started off as a part-time DJ working nights and weekends. It was a great opportunity for someone going to college to learn the ropes of radio. I wasn't sure how long it would last or if I would be any good at it. I had no idea I would be doing this for eight years and counting.
2. What led you to a career in radio?
I was a college student looking for a job while I was going to school. Growing up, the thought of working in radio did come to mind, but I thought that was unrealistic. Years later I saw a Facebook post about a job opening at my local radio station, KVPI, that didn't require past experience. I went apply and the rest is history.
3. How does your morning show with Miranda set the table for the rest of Q’s broadcast day?
Having a good show with great stories and banter is important. We set the stage for the rest of the day. It's about carrying that momentum from the morning to the midday and to the afternoon. Also, carrying that momentum from morning show to morning show is equally important.
4. Who would be the ultimate “dream guest” to have come in and sit across from you guys on your show?
Probably Jason Mamoa, because Miranda has a huge crush on him. She brings his name up frequently on the show. Carrie Underwood would be my personal choice. Not going to say if it is crush related or not.
5. Doing mornings and programming can make for a long day. How do you budget your time so that you make sure everything happens when it’s supposed to?
Doing mornings and programming was difficult early on. When I first got here, there was a lot of things to clean up and see about. I would find myself staying late every day. After about a year in, I got everything up to speed to where I felt it should be. Now it is just about maintenance and planning out tasks that I want to get done each day so I'm staying ahead of schedule.
6. “Local local local” has always been radio’s mantra. How are you keeping your station visible and involved in the community?
I probably worked for the most local radio station on earth during my time at KVPI. I brought that local mindset with me here to Q93. Recently Q93 brought treats to ER nurses at local hospitals, greeted kids being dropped off to school and passed out candy at a local Halloween event. We are always looking for ways to reach out to the community and our listeners to remind them that we are here.
7. If you weren’t in radio, what do you think that you might be doing?
Man, I never really thought about that. I would have to say I would probably be working at a restaurant somewhere. Right out of high school, I did work for a restaurant for about a year. Ironically enough, it was located right across the street from KVPI. Funny how life plays out sometimes.
8. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Station first. It's station first, everything else next. Surround yourself with people who don't want the attention on themselves but on the station.
9. What were your favorite stations growing up as a kid? Jock(s)?
I'm going to show off my young age here. I listened to several different stations growing up, but I listened mostly to 100.3 KRRV. I was raised more on Country music. Of course, KRRV is part of the Cenla Broadcasting cluster of radio stations here. I've been able to work with some of those same jocks that I grew up listening to: the late Hollywood Harrison, Pat Cloud & Melissa Frost. I also get to DJ during the midday on KRRV which is pretty sweet.
10. Who were your mentors? Who would you say has influenced your career the most?
I learned a lot about what to do and not to do from trial and error at KVPI. I wouldn't say I have mentors, but the staff here at Cenla Broadcasting has been great at giving advice. I enjoy picking their brains as the young guy. I can't say one person has influenced my career the most. I believe people cross our paths for a reason. Each person has an impact in some way.
Bonus Questions

Adele, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran. Glad that budget is unlimited!
