1. How would you describe your first radio gig?
Incredible, Interesting, Educational, Fun and Extremely Beneficial
2. What led you to a career in radio?
I was growing up in South Jersey and starting at about 7 years old, I would act like I was a radio DJ, newscaster, and play-by-play announcer in the house. I'd also call up radio stations across the country and have them send me bumper stickers and promo items in the mail. Less than ten years later, I showed up at a Q102 (WIOQ) promo event at a mall in South Jersey and was pulling carts for Elvis Duran, Valerie Knight and Glenn Kalina a few weeks later.
3. You're at the 19-year mark at one of America's premier radio stations. What's it like for a guy from Jersey to have made it in New York City?
I appreciate every single second I get the opportunity to be at my dream radio station in the number 1 market in the country. I mentioned I grew up in South Jersey....I mean deep farm land South Jersey...so, to work in some great markets across the country and have 19 years here at KTU in NYC is a dream I've been living since day 1 here back in 2004.
4. It's not an exaggeration to say that some of the greatest air personalities in radio history operate out of the iHeart/NYC building. What's it like to interact on a daily basis with some of the all-time greats?
I'm inspired and fortunate to be just steps away from the studios of icons and legends like Jim Kerr, Carol Miller, Ken Dashow, Elvis Duran, Cubby, Helen Little, and our very own Hollywood Hamilton. Radio is in my blood and to be able to hear their stories and share laughs with them is priceless. One of the best feelings in the world!
5. You hold down overnights on 'KTU – a big deal in the 'city that never sleeps.' What do you still love about being on the air?
Being able to connect with our listeners. There is a passion to the KTU listener. They are extremely diverse and I love talking about the intricacies of their lives with them. KTU is a vibe, a beat, a style, a unique station specially and custom designed to super serve New Yorkers. And, I LOVE connecting with them and being a part of the KTU team that invests in our listeners, because we love and care about them. Whether we accompany them on the way back home from a bad day in Manhattan or we're providing beats and great vibes for their bbq's and block parties in Queens, we are right there by their side!
6. How do we become more attractive to the potential Gen Z and Generation Alpha audiences?
I'm gonna base much of this back to the previous answer....invest in your listeners. They are going to their first concerts and fun events, continue to paint that picture of incredible opportunity and fun for them. Just like when we were younger and we wanted music on the radio to be all Madonna, NSync or Beyonce on the ride to and from one of their concerts. They can feel we are there for them during life's memorable moments through the music and the upbeat vibes.
7. What's your all-time favorite backstage memory?
Lionel Richie...over and over again....please! That man is an absolute legend. His excitement to see you and joke around with you is incomparable. Backstage at the Beacon Theater November 8, 2006, full of words of wisdom, passion, inspiration and overall great vibes! Whenever and wherever possible, I try see Lionel. Great move, American Idol!
8. If you could take a spin in the custom All Access Back To The Future Delorean, which legendary station from the past would you like to work at for a week?
