1. How would you describe your first radio gig?
Extremely exciting and educational. Steve McVie was the OM and took a chance on me as a high school kid. He gave me production studio time and took the time to aircheck my demos before eventually being on the air for real. Because of that experience, I try to give any part-timer who expresses interest in programming the same level of attention that I received from Steve.
2. What led you to a career in radio?
It all started in the 7th grade when I was on my school's television news crew. I was the weatherman – we even had a green screen! When I was looking for internships while still in high school, all the television stations said they only accepted college students for internships, so I said, 'I'll give radio a try, I guess.' It ended up working out pretty well!
3. G105 is a legendary brand in the format. How do we become more attractive to the potential Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences?
Authentic, local, personal – and most importantly – ENTERTAINING content and contesting. We all know we can get music from countless places, but that one-on-one human connection and money-can't-buy experiences are our distinct difference.
4. You're still on the air across the hall on Country sister B93.9. What is that part of your day like for you?
I still love being on the radio and taking the time to connect with listeners through our various platforms or at station events. I think like most people, I got into radio because I wanted to be on the air. As time goes on and career goals evolve, sometimes you forget why you started doing what you do. Not being on the air for a few years made me realize how much I missed that part of my day – I love it!
5. You're currently wearing a lot of hats for iHeart. How do you keep all the plates in the air?
'If you don't put it on my calendar, I'll forget and it won't happen' comes out of my mouth at least twice a week! But seriously, time management is key. Most importantly, a great team is vital to all our success. I am fortunate to work with a group of people who take initiative and just get it.
6. What's your all-time favorite backstage memory?
Dallas Jingle Ball 2018. It was just so cool to see how well-oiled that machine is from that perspective. Plus, seeing amazing artists and the programmers I look up to all in one place was pretty special!
7. If you could take a spin in the custom 'All Access Back To The Future Delorean,' which legendary station from the past would you like to work at for a week?
WBCN in Boston. I've heard way too many good stories (that I probably can't mention here). I'd love to go back and see how accurate the stories are!
8. What was your favorite station(s) to listen to when you were a kid? Jock(s)?
That's a tough one; it's a tie! I grew up listening to KISS 108 (WXKS-FM) and JAM'N 94.5 (WJMN) in Boston. Every morning on the bus, we'd either be listening to Matty on KISS or Romero & Pebbles on JAM'N – both massive shows, obviously. I also loved listening to Jackson Blue's night show on KISS 108 (I may or may not have called in and gotten on the air one time… okay I did).
9. Who were your mentors? Who would you say has influenced your career the most?
Without question, John Garabedian has influenced my career the most; I owe my career to him! I am lucky to call him a friend. Everything I learned about fun, personality radio I learned from John and listening to Open House Party growing up. I have been fortunate to have so many great mentors along the way, including Davey Morris, Don Cristi, Patrick Davis, and A.J.
10. With the venue of your choice available and an unlimited budget, which 6 artists would you pull together for a cluster-wide concert event?
Let's throw a big outdoor music festival in downtown Raleigh with multiple stages. Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, SZA, J. Cole, The Rolling Stones
