Please outline your radio career so far:
1996: WPLJ/New York (Promotions)
1998-2000: WSBG/Stroudsburg
2000: WJLK/Monmouth/Ocean
2000: WPST/Trenton-Philadelphia
2000-2002: WHCY/Sussex, NJ
2001: WHTG/Monmouth/Ocean
2001-2002: WPTP/Philadelphia
2002-Present: WPST/Trenton-Philadelphia1) How would you describe your first radio gig?
Grassroots. I wouldn't trade my two years at WSBG for anything. It was a great learning experience.
2) What led you to a career in radio?
After I interned at WPLJ, I knew that this was really the only career field for me. I also stopped listening to all the "adults" telling me to get a "real" job.
3) What is your favorite part of the job?
I really couldn't say just one. I am very blessed to have a job where my "work" doesn't seem like work at all.
4) What artist would we be surprised to find on your iPod?
Muppets Greatest Hits.
5) What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
Ever since I got married three years ago, every record lunch has ended with the question, "When ya having kids?" and me saying something like, "In 20 years!" Honestly, though, the one thing I wish to be in my life is a good father and I will get the chance, as my wife and I are expecting our first child, a daughter, in March.
6) What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
Z100.
7) Looking back, which years hold the best musical memories for you and who were your favorite acts at that time?
The '80s, for sure! Hair bands and glam rock will always be my favorite music! At eight years old, all I wanted to do was wear leather pants, makeup and tease my hair. Of course, it didn't sound THAT odd back then!
8) What is it about our industry that keeps you wanting to do it for a living?
What other job can I wear a baseball cap to work? (Other than an actual baseball player!)
9) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
The more you give, the more you get. Work hard and good things will come. (I guess that's two....)
10) What advice you would give people new to the business?
Don't give up. Work as hard as you can. Plus, give your career some time. Not everyone falls into a major-market, good-paying job right away. It takes some time to really find your place in this business.
Bonus Questions
For someone vacationing in your market, what one thing would you say they "must see"?
I think most people think of New Jersey as some kind of smelly hole in the ground. The truth is that Jersey has a lot of beautiful places to visit. There is a park by my house on the banks of the Delaware River that is really beautiful ... minus, of course, the landfill on the PA side....)
