NAME:Sean StewartPOSITION:MD/NightsSTATION:WDOD 96.5 The MountainMARKET:Chattanooga, TNOWNER:Bahakel Communications
Please outline your radio career so far:
I broke into radio in 1999 going by the name "Shrek." I spent eight years in upstate New York between three different stations: WPKF (96.1 Kiss-FM/Poughkeepsie), WSPK (K-104/Newburgh-Middletown) and WAJZ (Jamz 96.3/Albany). In 2005, I was nominated by The New York Metro Achievement in Radio Awards for Best Night Show.
In 2007 it was time for a change. Out went "Shrek" ... and "Sean Stewart" was born in Chattanooga, TN at Clear Channel Top 40 WKXJ. Two months in, they flipped to Country and fired the whole air staff. Next thing I know I'm at cros-town rival WDOD as the MD and nights host for their brand new 100,000-watt Top 40 MONSTER!
1) How would you describe your first radio gig?
Board-op'ing at 5a. Almost quit two weeks in.
2) What led you to a career in radio?
Take my uncanny ability to run my mouth and the fact that I love music, and you have a match made ... on VH1 !
3) What makes your station unique? How would you compare it to other stations you've worked at?
It's completely different from anywhere else that I have worked, but I wouldn't change a thing. 96.5 The Mountain is a family-minded station. From the jocks to the GM, everyone is treated like family!
4) Are you wearing more "hats" than you have in the past?
YES. If you are wearing only one "hat" in radio these days I'd like to meet you, shake your hand, and ask you how you have kept your job!
5) What is your favorite part of the job?
I have to pick just one? I feel lucky that every day I get up and look forward to going to work ... not a lot of people can say that!
6) What is the most challenging part of the job?
Salespeople.
7) What artist would we be surprised to find on your iPod?
Coldplay
8) What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
Z100 and Hot 97!
9) Do you have a favorite hobby outside of radio?
Constructing the ultimate fantasy baseball/football teams!
10) What do you listen to when you're not working?
SPORTS RADIO! Until last week it was Mike and The Mad Dog on WFAN. I'm a sports geek who grew up just outside NYC. Those two were the best in the business and it's sad to seem 'em split!
