BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Started as an intern back in 2009 with WJHM (102 JAMZ)/Orlando, now WQMP (101-9) AMP Radio. I got hired a few months later doing promo. About a year and a half later I started getting put on the air part time/swing. I've been in Knoxville a little over two years, as the MD/Night Jock for Hot 104.5!
1. What got you into radio?
When I was a kid, I used to be the guy on the radio stations websites wanting to see what the jocks looked like, but I never thought it could be an actual career. But then, I used to call Miss Kimmie (now cohost of the DJ Laz Morning Show) when she did overnights on WEDR/Miami. She put the bug in my ear and the rest is history.
2. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I think the question is, 'what didn't I want to be?' I was easily influenced back in the day so I majored in everything from Accounting to Pharmacy to Criminal Justice. I was never one of those, "I knew what I wanted to be my whole life people" which is both a blessing and a curse.
3. In a perfect world, where would you spend your next vacation?
My whole family was supposed to pay for me to take a trip to Europe when I graduated from college. I think it's about time to cash in on that.
4. It's football season...have you become a Tennessee Volunteer fan?
I wouldn't say that I'm a fan, but luckily I didn't grow up a Gator fan so it's easy for me to root for them. But everybody knows I rep my alma mater UCF all day everyday!
5. What would probably surprise most people about Knoxville?
It's a big small town, there's enough to do here, but it still seems like everybody knows everybody. Also the people here are very nice, but I guess that should be expected. #SouthernHospitality
6. What's your favorite song on the station right now?
"Luv" by Tory Lanez. I thought the song was cool when I first heard it, and it has grown on me so much since we added it. "No Problem" by Chance the Rapper and "What They Want" by Russ are on the shortlist, too.
7. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Probably a chef, or trying host a cooking show on TV (which is something I still may look into in the future). I've always loved food and watch the Food Network religiously. That's always been and still is a dream of mine.
8. I've seen you post photos of your adventures in the kitchen. At what level would you say your cooking is? What's your favorite dish?
Wow, didn't see this question before I answered the last one. My food always tastes good, but I don't know about putting flavors together and cooking thing to temperature. So, I'd say I'm at the intermediate lever, once I learn those two things I'll pursue that goal. My favorite dish to cook is cheese tortellini (pre-made) with sun-dried tomato pesto, chicken, broccoli, heavy cream and parmesan cheese. I'll attach a picture so you can see the deliciousness! lol.
9. Do you have a 'dream' radio market?
Yes, as well as a dream station. Dream market is LA, I would love to get into TV and L.A. is where it's all happening. Dream station is Power 96 in Miami. When I moved to Florida in 1996 I always loved how that station was able to adapt to whatever was hot at the time. I've got 10 years of great memories listening to that station and working there would be a dream come true.
10. What aspect of your 'game' would you like to improve the most in the coming year?
My role has expanded quite a bit with a more behind the scenes stuff, but I want to learn more production. I also want to learn about putting videos together. Radio is so much more than just cracking the mic so I'd love to step my game up in that aspect.
Bonus Questions
Who would star as Mean Jean Fremont in a Netflix series about your life?
Deon Richmond, he played Bud on The Cosby Show, that's my celebrity twin. As a matter of fact, I have a cousin that STILL calls me "Bud" as a nickname.
You get a four chair turn on The Voice this season. Who would you pick to be your coach...Miley, Adam, Alicia or Blake?
Ohhhhhh, good question. If Pharrell was an option, I'd pick him all day. BUT, based on the options I'd have to go with Alicia. First off all she's gorgeous, and who wouldn't want to have that one on one time with her. I've also been a fan of hers the longest, and if I as an artist I'd assume she'd be the closest to what I want to be.
