BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
- Afternoons at KIKI/Honolulu, XHTZ/San Diego,
- Mornings at KOHT/Tucson, WPGC/Washington DC, KSSX/San Diego.
1. What got you into radio?
It started with hosting a high school event. Being able to entertain and make an audience laugh is infectious.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Believe it or not, I wanted to make it in professional sports. But being a 5'4" Asian strong safety stopped at high school. I still dream of my name being called at the NFL Draft, hugging my parents wearing a Craig Sager like suit. But after the Chargers left, this was the first year I didn't even pay attention.
3. Audience-wise, what was the biggest difference between Washington D.C. and San Diego?
Foamposites vs flip flops.
4. How similar is your audience at JAM'N 95.7 and Hawaii?
The lifestyle is so similar...beaches, hiking and super models walking around. But then we all go back to our ridiculous rent, high cost of living and searching for a professional football team.
5. What would probably surprise most people about your San Diego?
How hard it is to get a Bud Light. San Diego has become Craft Beer USA. Shake your head and keep that "it tastes like water" comments to yourself. It's just I can't get into beer that taste like a Christmas tree and 11 bucks a pop.
6. If your wife, Jaymee, wanted a "hall pass", who would she ask for? And you?
Ooohhhh, I know this one!!! Paul Walker. Have fun with that hologram babe. But all kidding aside she was so SAD when it happened. But when we get into little tiffs I send her Paul Walker gifs. Sometimes it helps. Lol.
For me? At this point in my life, I would just do it for the story. So Oprah, Ellen, and maybe Kelly Ripa so it would be me instead of Seacrest.
7. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Laying carpet. Dad owns a flooring installation company in Hawaii. He's pretty much retired and now my younger brother is running it with a nice company credit card.
8. What's tops on your San Diego bucket list?
Hopefully buy season tickets for another NFL Season. #keepthefaith.
9. If your morning co-host, Tati, could change one thing about you, what would she want to change?
Two things:
- Stop thinking "I'm normal"
- Never ever bring up the fact I get into work at 2:30 am.
10. When you think about Hawaii, what's usually the first thing you think of?
Being on a catamaran off Waikiki Beach. The sun is setting and in the backdrop is Diamond Head. Surfers trying to squeeze in one more wave. I like to start and end every trip that way.
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal everyday for a month, what would it be
I got to go with Korean. From the barbeque and all those side dishes. Plus those metal tins that burn your hand with the rice in them makes for an exciting night.
How is your golf game?
Shot a 72 last week. So I quit after the 8th hole.
