BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Straight of high school my first on-air gig was part time at KPRR/El Paso. My first full time gig was at the a non-comm Jazz Station, KXCR/El Paso doing mornings.
In 1992, I got the night gig at KCHX/Midland, TX. In '96 I got my first PD gig and went to mornings at KCHX. I've been doing mornings in this market ever since.
In 1998, was able to go across town and start B93. I actually got to name the station. Family goals have kept me here but new challenges have kept things fresh over the years.
1. What got you into radio?
This is going to sound corny. It was Casey Kasem and American Top 40. I would make my own cassette tape mock countdowns and yes, long distance dedications.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
A mailman first, then a DJ. I'd still like to be a mailman.
3. You've been on the air in Midland for many years. Is there anything about your airshift that can surprise you?
I still get surprised every now and then. What I think our listeners are passionate about can change within two years and especially now with social media.
4. Did you take broadcast/communications classes in college? Anything stand out about them?
I did get a Mass Communications degree and looking back NOTHING is valid today. LOL...I kid. But, I do remember turning in my radio audio final on a cassette. But yes, the basics still apply and that's good to know.
5. What would probably surprise most people about your Midland?
That traffic is INSANE here. Oil and gas are booming here and we have BIG city traffic problems, if not worse.
6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
A mailman.
7. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Hit the road with my RV.
8. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Big Brother, but I'm too old for that show now. Ha Ha
9. American Idol, The Voice or The Four?
I'm old school, American Idol. The Voice has too many seasons.
10. What sparks joy for Leo Caro?
Star Wars, my family and friends
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be?
Chinese. Asian food all the way!
