1. What got you into radio?
Back in the early 2000’s I was doing club promotions and artist development for Hip Hop labels and I used to service DJs on radio and clubs with the latest vinyl. One day I said it’s time to switch from promoting the music to playing the music. I bought some Technics 1200s and started practicing my craft every day.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
I grew up during the civil war in El Salvador and I used to watch these American reporters doing their live reports in my homeland from the battle field and I thought that was an exciting job to do. I didn’t end up on TV but I did end up doing Radio.
3. How are you and your family doing through the pandemic?
It’s tough on the kids. They get bored of the same routine. I try taking them out on walks or bike rides daily but even that is not enough for my kids. They are used to going to soccer practice and hanging out with their friends. They definitely miss playing and socializing. On my end, I started doing my show from the house when the whole Covid thing hit. But it just wasn’t the same vibe from home.
I took all the safety measures and I’m currently doing my entire show in the DJ Booth while my board operator/producer is inside the main studio.
4. Who is in charge of home schooling the kids, you or your wife?
I help but my wife is definitely the one that takes all the credit. The Zoom Lives did get old for my kids after a while.
5. Professionally, what has been the biggest impact of the Covid-19 pandemic?
All stations have felt the impact economically and we’re no exception. Thank God things are now getting better and we're picking up the pace not only with sales but also with ratings.
6. Who were some of your radio and music mentors?
Mentors from the past:
- Julie Pilat – Former MD at KIIS
- Pio Ferro, Jerry Pulles, Former PD & MD at KXOL
- Juan Carlos Hidalgo, Jesus Salas – Programming at SBS
Mentors from past & present
- DJ Felli Fel – KPWR
- DJ Eman, Otto Padron, Irma Barrios at KLLI (Cali 93.9)
- Keith Cunningham at KLOS
7. What jumps out at you about what makes Cali 93.9 so special?
We’re the new kids on the block making noise playing all the latest Latin hits. Cali 93.9 FM is a lifestyle station that represents all the Latinos in Southern Cali. If the track is hot we’re playing it right away with no politics involved.
8. What's the most important thing you've learned about yourself in 2020?
That anything is possible. My goal the past 10 years was to get into programming. Meruelo Media and Cali 93.9 FM gave me that opportunity as the current APD for KLLI.
9. If you weren't in radio (or music), what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
I love soccer I’m currently DJing for LAFC so maybe something futbol related.
10. Pre-pandemic, what did you like to do in your spare time? Find any new activities during the pandemic?
Pre-Pandemic, I used to hit the weights at the gyms. I definitely miss that.
During Pandemic – Hiking Trails and walking around the neighborhood. Riding my bike with my kids is my favorite one, at the moment.

We're in Los Angeles/Hollywood. Who would you cast to play DJ Eddie One in a Netflix show about your life?
I've got the script ready. Born during the civil war in El Salvador a kid that fought his way to the states and is now an American citizen living the American dream.
My pick to play my part would be Mark Indelicato.
What's been your family's pandemic take-out/delivery leader?
We rotate Chipotle, El Pollo Loco, Waba Grill. We try our best to stay away from anything fried during the week. Once the weekend comes tacos and pupusas are a must.
Which Hip Hop or R&B artist would you love to hear guesting on Reggaeton record?
I think Chris Brown and Bad Bunny would make a great collabo. Drake and J Balvin would be nice to hear.
