BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Interned, drove vans and did weekends on iHM KYLD-WiLD 94.9 in San Francisco from there moved on to Nights/Promotions Director at iHeartMedio KDON/Monterey-Salinas, 1 year stint doing weekends at CBS Radio KMVQ/San Francisco then back to iHeartMedia KDON as the APD/MD/afternoons where I held it down for years and now I am here at the legendary KBOS/Fresno.
1. What got you into radio?
Growing up my station was WiLD 107 in San Francisco (now WiLD 94.9) I would listen before school to the Doghouse, hit record on my tape deck and catch up on what I missed after school! I loved the music, the talent on the station they just seemed so cool and sounded like they were having so much damn fun! I loved everything about the station so its still crazy to me that I actually got my start at KYLD in San Francisco and worked my way up.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
It was either a baseball player or one day on the radio and I learned VERY quick that I was not going to make it to any MLB team! Growing up listening to the radio I always wanted to be THAT guy on the radio, having fun playing music…just seemed like a dream for me. I feel pretty blessed to be where I am today and it just goes to show if you work hard you can do anything. Now the next big step would be to become a PD in a major market.
3. What was the biggest change in the move from MONTEREY/SALINAS to FRESNO?
The big thing would have to be the weather. I thought I was ready for the heat but man was I wrong. In fact this weekend, it's going to be 110. That’s the type of weather where you just stay inside with the AC on! Outside of that Fresno has everything, I can drive two hours back home to Salinas, 3 hours down south to LA..Yosemite is right there..Vegas is an hour flight..but I wouldn’t know about ANY of that because I’ve actually been working from home since March. I’m very grateful that iHeartMedia has allowed us to work from home during all these months keeping us and our families safe and healthy.
4. What has surprised you about living and working in FRESNO?
Living in Salinas for almost 15 years I got used to the small town feel. I loved my team out there from Sam Diggedy, Showbiz and Jess C. My days at KDON truly prepared me for this opportunity at KBOS. I’ve been blessed to have been trained by some very talented programmers. My team here is great and we have some in house superstars in CK, Carmen and Jizzo that I can count on for anything. We run our ship like a well oiled machine and that’s what keeps KBOS dominant in the Fresno Market.
5. What has the pandemic taught you about yourself?
Besides being able to cut my own hair…kinda…haha its taught me to appreciate time with family and focus on your health not just physically but mentally as well. Take a deep breath and don’t get overwhelmed. A lot of of us are quite blessed and don’t even see it, appreciate everything!
6. Have you developed new skills or hobbies during the pandemic?
I’ve actually been reading a lot and I’m kind of proud of that! I finished a whole trilogy! Author Don Winslow has “The Cartel Series” with The Power of The Dog, The Cartel and The Border and I loved every page of those books. If you like the Netflix show Narcos you will love this series. Highly recommend.
7. Cooking, food delivery, take-out or drive thru?
Its been a whole lot of Door Dash. It's to the point where I probably should just delete the app. But man you gotta love the fact that you can just pick your phone, order tacos and BAM they’re dropped off at your doorstep!
8. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
A motivational speaker, I love to teach people and push people to be the best versions of themselves. Also a food tour guide in Barcelona. Thats the dream right there! I love food. You should check out my food IG page from all over @eatdrinkeverywhere.
9. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
I’d want to be on Million Dollar Listing but I want to be the millionaire buying one of those dope huge houses!
10. Favorite pandemic binge watch?
I’ve watched them all from Narcos, The Boys, Money Heist (but you have to watch in Spanish) 90 Days Fiance has to be my guilty pleasure.
Bonus Questions
What from the pandemic will you continue to do after things return to normal?
I plan on reading more. Usually with work its always crazy busy with WORK that you don’t make time for things outside of radio. Reading provides that escape from the daily craziness we all go through.
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be?
I love Mexican food. I can do that every day. But I love Spanish food…Tapas, Paella…I love it all.
