1. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
A teacher. I don't know why but I wanted to be a teacher up until I got to high school. My mom even saved my grade school papers where I said I wanted to grow up and be a teacher. I think it's because I loved helping people. I used to love being a teacher's assistant. Also, I'm pretty sure the movie, Matilda, inspired me to want to be a teacher so bad. lol
2. What would you be doing now if you weren't in radio?
Because I started my internship, I'm radio right out of high school. I honestly don't see myself doing anything that doesn't involve being in entertainment. I feel like I would have probably become a social media influencer who eventually landed a tv show of some sort.
3. What would you like to do better as an air personality?
I think if I was asked this a few years ago I would have said, "I would want to be more intentional with my content on air." But years ago, when my old co-workers who I started mornings with were cut and I was left to do mornings by myself, I knew this was my time to start fresh creatively and kind of reinvent myself. So, I vowed to deliver the most authentic me I can be. As an on-air personality, I am constantly trying to perfect my craft by doing research and finding the most relatable content I can talk about. I put myself in the mindset of a listener and deliver the content I would want to hear myself, in that moment. I think I give the best I can as an on-air personality so I don't know what I could do better but I'm sure my PD can answer that better for you. lol
4. How do you budget your time?
By being purposeful with my time. Being as productive with my actions as I can with the time that I have. I'm a mother of 3 with one being just 8 months old so I have to be purposeful when I'm taking time away from my kids because at the end of the day the goal is provide them with the best life, I can give them while at the same time attempting to reach my career goals.
5. Has the game changed much since the start and run of the pandemic?
Absolutely. I think we were all tested during the pandemic. We all had to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to innovate radio. It pushed us out of our comfort zone and made us explore more while being under pressure during such a scary and unknown time in our lives. All in all, I believe it made most of us better as entertainers.
6. Where is your first social media stop in the morning? Do you have a favorite place to post, personally?
Instagram. I'd say it's almost a tie with TikTok now because I definitely check Instagram and then hop on TikTok right after.
My favorite place to post is Instagram but I'm working on being more consistent on TikTok, too because I think it can be beneficial for me as an entertainer.
7. If you have three consecutive days off work, how are you spending your time?
I'm disconnecting from work and social media and spending quality time with my kids and family and pouring into my over-all mental health.
8. Got any hobbies?
Is watching true crime considered a hobby? That and finding new recipes to cook.
9. Who were/are some of your mentors, both in radio and outside of radio?
Charlamange. I love and admire his growth through the years and the entertainer/influencer and just overall passionate person he has become. I aspire to be like him.
10. What makes being on the radio special to you?
The ability to be able to entertain and make people laugh and feel good with just my voice. My dad did Spanish Radio his whole life. He recently retired but growing up I was obsessed with listening to Big Boy and the radio as much as I could. I think that was because my dad made his radio career look so fun and cool so I imagined English radio was that way or better. I think High school was when I really started to think "what if I could be in radio" and well, radio has always just had a special place in my heart even just as a listener.
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be?
Mexican tacos. I had to specify because, you know, everyone makes anything a taco nowadays.
My wife is hooked on Married At First Sight and Vanderpump Rules. Got any TV reality show guilty pleasures?
I was hooked on Love is Blind and the first season of The Circle. But now I just love watching cooking and baking shows if I'm not watching True Crime documentaries.
