BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I've been a DJ since high school. After I graduated I went to college and also got into production while continuing to DJ. The music thing took off and led me to put college on hold and run with the music thing. An opportunity came up to jump into some radio through a couple friends (Dave Steel and Chris Logan) at a station cranking up in town (Hot 107.9) with a format (Rhythmic) that was all the rage. I jumped on doing a weekend shift and here we are five years later talking to Pete Jones at www.allaccess.com. Currently, I still do the DJ thing along with this beautiful life in radio.
1. What got you into radio?
Radio got me interested in radio, and production opened the door for the career in radio.
2. What was your first impression of a radio station when you first walked into one?
Wait a minute, this isn't what it was like on TV!
3. In addition to being the MD at KRKA, you do mornings with your boss, PD Chris Logan. Don't you get sick of him?
You can't get sick of a guy like Chris. He takes pride in his work and the rest just falls into place.
4. It's the norm for everyone at a station to wear a few hats. You're the MD/morning co-host. What other hats, official or unofficial, do you wear?
I tend to wear the hat of pop culture and all things useless. Be it MySpace, celebrity gossip or fashion. If it's going on while I'm supposed to be working, I'm usually there.
5. What do you like to do to relax away from work?
Sleep is a luxury item in my life. I take as much as I can get !
6. A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
See above answer! All of my fellow morning show guys can feel me on this one.
7. Any record come to mind that you completely whiffed on?
Well, none yet. If I don't hit home runs, I at least want the ball to hit the fence.
8. Who do you consider your mentor(s)?
I've had the opportunity to work with a lot of artists in the music industry so it's tough to credit just one. As far as radio goes, Chris Logan and Dave Steel have really been a big help since day one.
9. What would you say is the highlight of your work day at KRKA?
Finding new music...always!
10. What is your favorite song that you're not playing at KRKA?
N.E.R.D.'s "Everyone Nose" remix ft. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and Pusha T ... as well as a solid runner up in Flo Rida's "Roll" ft. Sean Kingston
Bonus Questions
Let's play "Word Association". What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say, "alarm clock"?
"Two"...because it takes that many alarm clocks for me to get out of bed every morning. The old one-two punch
If you were getting married next weekend and you could have any artist or group, perform a special song for the first dance at your wedding reception, who would you chose?
It would be a tall order, but since we are hypothetically speaking, I would have Nat King Cole perform "Unforgettable".
