1. What was your last non-radio job?
In Seattle, skiing and mountain bikes are big thing. I worked as a tech mostly so I could ski for free.
2. What got you into radio?
Mixing did it. I was a club DJ in Seattle for a long time and as mix shows got more popular, obviously radio needed mixers. Once I started I couldn't turn back.
3. What's your favorite aspect of being a PD?
Putting the puzzle together. Music, imaging and promotion...when these things all come together I love it. If it doesn't come together I blame the consultant.
4. What's the highlight of your career radio to date?
Honestly, there have been a lot of highlights but the one I seem to always talk about is mixing on stage at KUBE93 Summer Jam. Mixing in front of 20,000 people can be a changing experience.
5. How was the adjustment to South Bend from Spokane?
The biggest change is moving from MD to PD. There's whole new rule book and four times as many meetings. As far as the regional difference...the bugs in the Midwest are crazy.
6. Say you're stranded on a desert island. You have 3 CDs, 2 DVD movies in your luggage when you float onshore. What CDs and DVDs would you have?
Hmm, there are so many. I would have to say Usher 8701, TLC Crazy Sexy Cool, and hook me up with a Jazzy Jim Mix Tape. As far as DVDs, I've got a have the Sopranos in there somewhere. I'll take the whole series.
7. Who do you consider your radio mentor(s)?
MIKE TIERNEY was the PD at KUBE when I started. He was a big teacher in fundamentals...be "brilliant at the basics". It's what I tell my people today. Michael Newman and Mark Adams have key player in keeping me grounded with music and promotions.
8. A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
Can this shift create a new mountain range in the Midwest? I would ski.
9. What's your favorite part about living in South Bend?
The people here are really nice I've lived in a lot of cities and South Bend is definitely one of the friendliest.
10. Tell us a little about your staff?
My staff kicks ass. KEESHA is our mid-day girl and she loves it and you can tell when you listen to her she's always smiling. MIKE JAX is the new guy on staff and he's doing nights as well as the MD. He has fit right in here in South Bend he should do very well.
Bonus Questions
Sushi and sake or Pizza and beer?
Depends on where I'm at. West Coast, Sushi and Sake... Midwest, Pizza and beer.
