Please outline your radio career so far: (station/date, station/date, etc.)
I started off doing college radio at KFSR at FRESNO STATE. Then I got a chance to go to KBOS/FRESNO. From there I came here to KCAQ to do a slow jams show and other odd jobs around the office. I got promoted to Assistant Program Director...flash forward a few years... and now I'm the Program Director for KCAQ.
1) What got you interested in Radio?
I filled in for a friend one night for his college radio show. I was hooked... Done Deal
2) You have recently moved to the morning show at Q. Have you adjusted well to the different shift and how it affects your day?
The adjustments have been good. I just have to really stay focused. To sum it up in one two words...TIME MANAGEMENT. Gotstadoit!
3) What's been your biggest disappointment in Radio?
The lack of love...respect...passion. However you want to say it. We have to keep that same mind set we had as interns. Or even before that when you were trying to land that gig as an intern. We have to be HUNGRY, not all this bitter, complaining, drama. Granted, this is a business, so handle yours as you should. But at the same time all the venom spitting, save it. All of us had people who looked out for us in this business, simply because they saw something in us. They loved what they did. Don't discourage the next generation by spitting hate, and negatives all the time. Let it gooooooooooo!
4) What's the highlight of your radio career to date?
So far, becoming PD at KCAQ and just continuing to be successful at it. Keep in mind, I'm not done yet.
.
5) You've been at Q for some time now? What's been biggest change in the market?
The growth. The market has grown tremendously, and the station is continuing to grow with it. It's a WONDERFUL thing.
6) Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
Not sure if mentor is the right word for the people who looked out for me. I'll just say I'm been blessed to have a whole lot of people share their knowledge and experience with me, some older, some younger. JIMMY STEAL, JOEY BOY, J PHILLA, TONY TECATE, TRAVIS LOUGHRAN, E. CURTIS JOHNSON, BYZE ONE, BOB LEWIS ...and many more. There are just too many to name.
7) KCAQ has been in the format a long time. Who are some of the Q104.7 alumni that have moved up and on from Q?
JOEY BOY and J PHILLA at KKFR/PHOENIX, KHOOL-AID at Power 106/LOS ANGELES started off in the 805, as well as CORNDOGG at KKBT. That's just to name a few.
8) If you were to leave Radio today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
Go back to work in Juvenile Probation and Real Estate.
9) Your VP/GM tells you that you've got an additional $50,000 in the programming budget. Where do you spend it?
On my staff and on marketing for the station.
10) A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
Spend time with my wife and get in some reading.
