1998 -- 1999 WGZR, SAVANNAH, GA, Afternoons1. What do you remember most from your first shift on the air?
I remember stumbling over my first intro, thinking quickly, I blamed it on the heat! The next 50 phones calls I received were from construction workers who told me, "Boy…you don't know what heat is!"
2. What got you interested in Radio?
The Phaser Countdown 5 with "THE CRASHMAN" VIC SAINT JOHN. Yeaaaah Baby! I still have tapes of me doing my thing as a guest DJ back in 6th grade.
3. What's been your biggest disappointment in Radio?
Never having had 100,000 watts to program with.
4. What's the highlight of your radio career to date?
Scoring the highest ratings ever for WKPO in the two markets that we serve. (MADISON, WI and ROCKFORD, IL).
5. What secret about DAN HUNT will surprise even those that know you?
I love me some Sci-Fi! BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, STAR TREK ENTERPRISE, OUTER LIMITS...etc.
6. What are you looking to hear as you hit "play" on an aircheck for a gig?
I am looking for someone that is real, not a DJ.
7. Who do you consider to be your mentor?
MICHAEL NEWMAN, my consultant.
8. Which new artists do you see us still playing in 2015?
Off the top my head...CIARA and CHRIS BROWN.
9. Top 40/Rhythmic is fairly under represented in the Midwest. There seems to be some serious programming talent in the Midwest, despite the few stations. Do you network with the other PDs in your region?
While I have a friendly relationship with most of the programmers in the Midwest, the people I network with the most are from outside my region.
10. If you were to leave Radio today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
Two words... Planet Smoothie.
Bonus Questions
Your VP/GM tell you that you've got an additional $50,000 in the programming budget for the remainder of 2005. Where do you spend it?
I would reward current staff members and use the remaining dollars to market the station.
