- KTGX/Tulsa Feb. 2010 - Present - PD

- WABB/Mobile Feb. 2003 - Aug. 2007 - MD/nights
1. What was your last non-Industry job?
I worked at Best Buy for three years. I was a nerd in a blue shirt that sold computers for a living. And if you give me a couple of minutes, I can still sell you a useless extended warranty.
2. Why Radio?
Honestly? I needed a job. I was a broke college kid in Mobile and heard from a friend about an opening as a board op at WABB. I knew I liked music a lot and I knew I could make people laugh, so I decided to give this radio thing a shot. Fell in love with the concept and eventually annoyed my PD, Jay Hastings, enough to give me a shot on the air.
3. What would you rather do?...gambling in Las Vegas or go sport fishing off the Florida Keys?
I love Vegas, but I suck at poker REALLY bad. So I'll take the Florida Keys
4. What's a typical day like for you as MD/night personality at KTBT?
Well I also just took the PD Chair at the new Gen X Radio 106.1 here in the same building, so I'm pulling double duty. In the door by 9:30, schedule music, drink a Mountain Dew, work on imaging and promotions for both stations, drink another Mountain Dew, meet with the sales staff for a few minutes, drink another Mountain Dew, show prep for an hour or two, drink one last Mountain Dew, and then embark on a caffeine-induced adventure at night. It's a lot of fun, but I'm sure my stomach doesn't really appreciate it.
5. What's your favorite part of your duties?
I love the creative aspect of the job. The industry, I think, is really evolving to where we have to come up with new and really outside-the-box ways to draw in our audience. Having a PD and an OM here in Tulsa that are open to being inventive really makes it fun to think about how we can use on-air, web, text, and social networking elements to create an experience for the listeners that's mutually beneficial.
6. Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
I've been really fortunate to have a lot of people throughout my career that believe in developing new talent. Jay Hastings, Dylan, and Jammer at WABB were all instrumental in taking a 20-year old kid and molding me into a legitimate radio personality, and Corbin Pierce and Don Cristi here at Clear Channel Tulsa have really taken it a step further to develop me into a good program director.
7. If you and Lizzie were getting married tomorrow and you could pick any band, singer or group to play your reception (including the Chicken Dance and other "traditional" wedding songs), who would you pick?
Easy. Matchbox Twenty. I have a man crush on Rob Thomas, and I don't care what anybody says. I'm sure I'll get crap in the building for that.
8. What would you sing to knock the judges out if you were trying out for American Idol?
I tried that once and failed miserably, so if I had to do it again I'd probably just do a really bad white-boy rendition of "Baby Got Back" and hope that I get on TV.
9. If you were to leave Radio today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
I couldn't leave the music industry, so probably somewhere in artist management or A&R
10 . What's your dream market?
I honestly love Tulsa (as weird as that may sound), but if I were to move anywhere I would love to be in Nashville. It's just got this incredible atmosphere that you can't find anywhere else in the country.
Bonus Questions
Kannon from Wired in Philadelphia eats weird food for fun. What's the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?
I accidentally ate a dog biscuit when I was 6 because I thought it was a cookie. Does that count?
A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
I'll use the obvious answer here and say spend more time with the girlfriend. I'm sure she'd really appreciate me doing something with her during the week other than falling asleep.
