1) How do you see your role as a radio personality?
I work hard every day to be the best in the game.
2) How is the music scene in Atlanta?
Music changes and grows every day. Sounds, production and the diversification of Hip-Hop, Rap and R&B, not to mention the tremendous growth of Urban AC. The "60 & unders" now have grown up on Hip-Hop.
3) What are the keys for doing an entertainment-based show?
Show prep, knowing your market and what your audience likes.
4) So what does the future hold for you?
I can always do mornings or afternoons (or overnights). I've always looked at it as not having to be in a hurry. I kinda revolutionized evening radio, being consistently # 1in all demos (even PPM) since 1988.
5) I know there is a list, but who are some of the people that have influenced and mentored your career?
Harvey Knight, Rob Neal, Tony Brown, Greg Mack, Guy Black, Micheal J Alexander, Al Love, Arlene Terry, Tom Joyner, Barry Richards, Bobby OJ, Larry Jones, Doc Kilgore and more.
6) Can you tell us about your K104 years in Dallas?
K-104 being the only independent owned major-market station in the country and having an owner like Hymen Childs makes the difference. The market is amazing also, just a lot of territory to cover if you do work in the community. It's like four or five cities in one. I love the Triple D.
7) Would you share your thoughts on the future of radio and solutions to any of the problems you see?
Radio will always constantly grow and evolve. I don't give out trade secrets. My ideas are too next level to just talk about in open forums.
8) What advice do you have for those just starting out in radio?
Read and study the industry (not the game, this is not a game). It's bigger than most can see from the surface and it's not about being considered a celebrity.
9) Could you share some of the most important lessons you have learned along your career path?
People think you can help everybody and that's not fair or realistic.
10) You have branded yourself well, can you share some of the things you do and have done?
Being an extension of your personal passions are very important when branding yourself.
