NAME:BoomerTITLE:Nights 6-10pm/Sonic Information Agent (S.I.A)STATION:KBZTMARKET:San Diego (#17)COMPANY:Lincoln Financial MediaBORN:MinnesotaRAISED:Cody, Wyoming
BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
MD and Afternoon drive at KKPL 99.9 The Point in Ft. Collins, CO., DJ at KCSU at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins CO, and DJ at KYDZ "Kids" at Cody High School in Cody, WY.
1. How did you get the coveted night gig at FM 94/9?
I sent my tape. Well, not literally, there's Old School and then there's Just Sad.
2. How hard was it for you to have to relinquish your previous MD duties?
No duties were exchanged for airplay or spins, all duties were relinquished to The Company, heretoforthwith. It's been fine, everyone here's really involved in the music, and besides, I've taken up surfing.
3. In the short amount of time you have been in San Diego, what has surprised you most about FM 94/9?
The listeners call up to say, "thanks" all the time -- for a song, for being cool, for whatever. People are so nice here. Everyone in the building is that way, and everyone at the station genuinely gets along and likes each other, it's weird.
4. What makes FM 94/9 unique?
It's the music, and the attitude, they go together. We're playing things that other Alt stations wouldn't touch, like the new Dylan and Band of Horses. One of my favorite things are the trainwrecks, like the Postal Service will go straight into Rage Against the Machine, it's FUN. We play songs that were hits and songs that weren't, stuff from the Pixies, the Specials, Motorhead, Bjork, etc, it's just good music. Everyone here loves music, Garett, Halloran, Hansen, Anya, Midori, Promotions dudes-Owen and Jeremy, partimers ... everyone-and it shows. And the rotation is great, as a jock it really keeps you sane when you don't get those calls: "You guys play that song too much." Not to mention, the fulltime female jocks out number the fulltime male jocks, 3-2, it's a cool and rare thing in this format.
5. How did you go about educating yourself on San Diego?
Ron Burgundy taught me a lot, plus getting into the culture, going to shows, surfing, getting fish tacos, and the Interweb. It's been really easy, it's a great city to explore and run around in, everyone's nice.
6. How do you prepare for your show each evening?
Stretching is so important, and I come in early and prep.
7. What is your biggest challenge on-air each night?
Pushing buttons. Seriously, a monkey can't do this job. A talking monkey could, but that'll be the day.
8. How different is your KBZT air shift from what you were doing at KKPL?
It's Fight Club, and I forgot the first rule ...
9. What would surprise people most about you?
How much I can eat.
10. What is the toughest part of your job?
The rocket science, I didn't major in rocket science. I took one community college class and it was a joke.
Bonus Questions
