BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
My first radio job was at KEUN 105.5 in Eunice, Louisiana. It was a sales job. I voiced all of the commercials I sold. The station manager encouraged me to stick with broadcasting because he told me that I had a "radio voice." Then I was hired at KVPI 92.5 in Ville Platte. I worked weekends and hosted a 50’s and 60’s show weekday evenings. Then Townsquare media hired me to report news for KPEL News Radio and host a weekend show on Hot 107.9. After graduation, I switched gears and joined the camera crew at KLFY TV 10. I eventually returned to radio and went to work for KBON 101.1, a Louisiana Radio station. At the time, all the shows were completely live. There was no voice tracking at all. After a few years, Delta Media Corporation hired me to report morning traffic accidents and do a midday show on Mustang 107.1. The rest is history.
1. How did you first become interested in radio?
I have been interested in radio since I was in elementary school. I was the annoying kid who relentlessly called local DJs in an effort to get them to play my favorite song.
2. You have been at Delta Media for the past 9 years. What is a typical workday like for you with your Alternative & Country duties for Mustang 107.1?
I usually arrive at the station a few hours before my air shift is set to start on 106.3. I use this time to go through emails, edit music logs, write copy, blogs, update social media, and prepare for my show.
3. You had some really sad news at the beginning of 2021 when former OM Larry LeBlanc passed away. How did that impact you?
I found out that Larry died on Facebook. Someone from his other market posted about it. It was shocking and sad. Even after Larry left, he and I remained in contact. He was such a positive person. He always let me know when he was listening and offered good advice. I learned a lot about the industry from him. I respected him and was devastated to hear of his passing.
