Washington's annual Cherry Blossom Festival is very popular. Too popular, maybe. The crowds quickly created massive mounds of trash, because the folks who maintain the Mall weren't prepared for big crowds. You know, because they've never gotten big crowds for this before. Except that they have, for decades. (We used to go when we lived back east, over 20 years ago.) You'd be forgiven for looking at the trash piles and thinking that they're symbolic of Washington in general. (Washington Post)
