Guess You Can't Ask For Originality From Selfie Fans. Or Intelligence

Used to be that Mission Peak in Fremont, CA (near Oakland) was a serene spot, a rocky, rugged spot with a view that took a three-mile hike up a rugged trail to reach. Now, it's been overrun with tourists, causing erosion, frequent calls to paramedics when the newcomers (and their dogs!) encounter trouble like dehydration on the hike, trash, noise, and other problems. Why? Because it's become a popular spot for selfies because of the 360-degree Bay Area view. What's really weird is that nobody really knows why this park, among others with similar views that are more picturesque, has become the selfie spot of choice. It's not the nicest place -- really, a bunch of barren rocks -- and there's no shade, no water, no nothing. But it really is where people go to take selfies for Facebook. (San Francisco Chronicle)
