How About A World Record For Apathy?
-
Apparently, the people of India are really, really into setting world records -- ANY world records, including really wacky and pointless ones like throwing light bulbs for distance, motorcycle pyramids, typing a sentence with one's nose, chugging ketchup... Why? One theory is that there's a national need to assert primacy over something, anything. There's also that the society is hyper-competitive. But... a world record in airbrushing faces? A record in something for which there's no existing record? Why is there such devotion to pointlessness? (New York Times)
