Guess He Backed Down
-
Quietly, Sam Smith settled a dispute by giving Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne a writing credit on the massive hit "Stay With Me," because it sounded a little too close to "I Won't Back Down.". It does, although it's not quite exact. And Smith didn't fight it -- as soon as it was pointed out, he negotiated and gave Petty and Lynne a 12.5% credit, no further trouble. I doubt Sam sat down and deliberately copied it, but I guess he felt guilty anyway. Too bad other disputes don't get settled this easily. (WOGL/Philadelphia)
