The 'Hogan's Heroes' Conundrum

A college did a public seminar asking whether Holocaust and genocide jokes are ever okay. And the newspaper writing about it is doing an informal poll on that. Here's the thing: It depends on the situation, the timing, the person telling the joke, the intent... in other words, like any other joke, sometimes, tasteless works, and sometimes if's just bad. There's no "too soon" rule in effect. And I say that as a son of a Holocaust survivor who's heard a lot of Holocaust jokes and, well, they don't offend me unless they're intended to just be offensive and not funny. In other words, if it's actually funny, fine. (South Jersey Times)
