And That Phrase Means What, Exactly?

Irvine, CA has decided to display "In God We Trust" at City Hall, because they can, and that's pretty much the reason. Some official actually says that, well, the court ruled it's OK, so we have to respect the court. Well, no, you don't HAVE to post the slogan; the court said it was okay, not mandatory. And they can say it's secular, but you know why they're doing it, and to claim that it's not meant as provocative is disingenuous. I don't care one way or the other, and I suspect most people don't, but when elected officials concentrate on this, they're just pandering to the fringe. (Los Angeles Times)
